Dear San Marco Church Family: I was so encouraged by our worship attendance and the spirit in worship this past Sunday. Even as we lament the tragic events in Minnesota, it is comforting and empowering to come together for worship. In the past few months, I have seen many new faces at church and I know God is at work drawing us together. Of course, growing together in faith takes time and patience as we get to know each other slowly. What happens in this process is that our collective identity as a Christian community evolves and matures. Just as individuals have a DNA identity, each Christian community has a DNA that illustrates who we are. While I have only served this church about 18 months, I have several observations. Those who attend San Marco church are faithful, intelligent, and deeply concerned with social justice. We care about people in our world who are hurting. Many of us understand hardship because we have experienced it ourselves. Some have experienced rejection and hurt from other churches. Their commitment to faith despite previous hurts is admirable. We are having an important meeting this Sunday, February 1, immediately after worship. Our leaders will talk about the vision for the future that God has for San Marco Church. We will evaluate the strengths and challenges of our life together. There will be opportunities to ask questions and learn more about our church. Friends, our leaders have been planning this gathering for several weeks, and our prayer is that you will plan to attend and engage in the conversation. I understand there will be some good food available , so no need to rush out to lunch! I have two requests. First, will you plan to set aside a few minutes this week to pray for those who are leading this meeting and for all who attend? Pray for clarity of insight and good communication. Secondly, will you plan to attend the meeting? Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. I continue to grow in my love and appreciation for this church, and I am eager to see how God leads us forward! I look forward to seeing you all Sunday! Steve Hart
