Dear San Marco Church Family: Thanks to all of you who served or participated in any manner for our Holy Week services! It was so encouraging to see the sanctuary packed on Easter Sunday! God is at work in our midst, and I know I often need this reminder. Despite whatever challenges we face (and I know there are many in our world), we serve a faithful God who loves us more than we can comprehend! There are several activities coming up in our life together. First, some of us are participating in the “Strides for Pride” 5K and one mile fun run Sunday morning at 8am. The event is sponsored by the Jasmyn organization, which is a nonprofit that supports young people in the LGBTQIA community. You can sign up on Sunday morning, if you haven’t already, at the Northbank Riverwalk Artist Square in the Riverside area. Just look up the Jasmyn organization’s website to learn more. At 9:45am Sunday, the Disciple’s Heart life group class will have its first meeting at the church. The meeting will be in the middle classroom in the row of rooms that open to the outdoors facing LaSalle Street. I know that several folks signed up, so please plan to be there on time and to pray for Mark and Tanya who will be facilitating the class. The class is set up to last six weeks, and I know that Mark and Tanya have many years of experience leading groups. I am excited to see how God will use this class to help us all grow in discipleship. Finally, the book club that meets every Tuesday evening at 6pm at the Southern Grounds coffee shop is starting a new book entitled “Accidental Saints” by Nadia Bolz-Weber. The subtitle of the book is “finding God in all the wrong people.” I have read the book and I think you will find Rev. Bolz-Weber a refreshing voice. Her writing is engaging, somewhat sarcastic, and very funny! I will close with a quote from Father Richard Rohr’s recent devotional. Father Rohr says, “God’s one and only job description is to turn death into life. That’s what God does with every new springtime, every new life, every new season, every new anything……..and no one who trusts in this God will ever be put to shame.” Amen!
